Building Equity Respect & Inclusion in our Communities

LetterheadLogo

Many of us will experience a mental illness at some time in our lives.  Sadly, studies show, that the stigma and discrimination associated mental illness can be far worse than the illness itself. Stigma and discrimination can lead to unfair treatment, ridicule, harassment and abuse.  It can even bring the loss of family, friends, job and home.  Discrimination is illegal under the Human Rights Act.

The resulting stress makes the journey of recovery long and difficult. It also makes some people reluctant to admit to illness and seek the support they need.

We believe discrimination occurs because of fear, ignorance and misunderstanding.

A powerful way to promote change is to give people with experience of mental illness the opportunity to be heard throughout our communities.
